How to Grow Aloe Vera at Home and Its Medicinal Properties

Aloe vera is a medicinal plant that has been used in health and beauty practices since ancient times. It also plays a special role in purifying polluted air. Aloe vera contains 20 types of minerals and 8 of the 22 amino acids required by the human body. Additionally, it contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, and E. Some people consume aloe vera regularly to prevent various diseases. Aloe vera is now readily available in the market all year round. However, those who use aloe vera regularly can grow it in containers if they wish. A plant can grow from an aloe vera leaf, and it does not require much care in cultivation. I’m sharing from my experience the important things you need to know to grow aloe vera in pots.

Soil:

Aloe vera can thrive in various soil types, but it grows best in well-draining, loamy soil that is rich in organic matter. It is recommended to cultivate Aloe vera in elevated areas to prevent water accumulation. When planting in a pot, use a medium-sized pot with high planting, ensuring that the leaves do not touch the soil. Adding bone powder and eggshell powder to the soil can greatly benefit Aloe vera growth.

Propagation:

Aloe vera can be easily propagated by separating the seedlings from the main plant. It is advisable to nurture the seedlings in containers to promote better growth and thicker leaves.

Planting Time:

Aloe vera seedlings can be planted throughout the year, but it is better to plant in the beginning of the Ashad month to get a good yield. However, it is better not to plant seedlings during winter and the rainy season.

Cultivation Method:

Firstly, collect some aloe vera leaves for cultivation, making sure that the white part on the bottom stays with the leaf. Now, put the aloe vera leaf in a hole in the middle of the soil and wet the soil with water. When the roots start to grow, you can transfer the leaves to a larger container. Alternatively, you can grow plants from aloe vera leaves by cutting the aloe vera leaf from the middle with a sharp knife. Leave the leaves in a warm place for two weeks, and when it turns brown, put it in a container with a hole in the bottom. Place it in a pot with well-drained soil, mix aloe vera leaves in the soil, and add water. Keep it in a place where it gets direct sunlight and water it daily. The aloe vera plant will start growing within 4 weeks.

For faster growth of potted aloe vera plants, you can use natural fertilizers. Crush 4 to 5 eggshells to make fertilizer and soak a handful of potato peels, a few banana peels, and eggshells in one and a half liters of water. After 3 days, when the foam is removed, filter the mixture and separate the water. Give this water to the aloe vera plant every 15 days, and you will see your aloe vera plant growing fast.

Fertilizer Application:

Generally, no chemical fertilizers are used. Instead, organic fertilizers like khair or neem khair should be used.

Other Care:

Weeds should be prevented from growing at the base of the plant. A spot that receives light morning sun is ideal. Avoid strong sun all day, as this may cause the leaves to turn yellow. Also, a completely shaded place is not suitable for this plant. Moderately water the plant only when the root soil is dry. Ensure that the leaves of the plant are not attached to wet soil to avoid leaf rot.
